Storyline:
In 1922, Madrid is wavering on the edge of change as traditional values are challenged by the dangerous new influences of Jazz, Freud and the avant-garde. Salvador Dali arrives at the university; 18 years old and determined to become a great artist. His bizarre blend of shyness and rampant exhibitionism attracts the attention of two of the university's social elite - Federico Garcia Lorca and Luis Bunel. Salvador is absorbed into their youthfully decadent group and for a time Salvador, Luis and Federico become a formidable trio, the most ultra-modern group in Madrid. However as time passes, Salvador feels and increasingly strong pull towards the charismatic Federico - who is himself oblivious of the attentions he is getting from his beautiful writer friend, Magdalena. In the face of his friends' preoccupations - and Federico's growing renown as a poet - Luis sets off for Paris in search of his own artistic success. Federico and Salvador spend the holiday in the sea-side town of ...

I'd love for it to play anywhere in NC I'd drive to see it! I guess with it being an art film it isn't being played everywhere! A DVD would be greatly appreciated!

As a huge Robert Pattinson fan I was eager to see Little Ashes. It is a far cry from Twilight and Harry Potter, and Robert Pattinson shines as Salvador Dali. He really shows that he can act, and is not just another handsome face. This movie is beautifully shot, and the acting is fantastic. Anyone who wants to see what Robert Pattinson is really capable of , and wants to see a film about Dali should see this movie.

I usually like a good foreign film, but honestly, I probably wouldn't have taken time to see this if Rob Pattinson was not in it. RP did not carry the film (as publicity might suggest), but the social and political tragedy is beautifully told despite some bottom budget sets. The cast (particularly Javier Beltran), characters, costumes, and music are very good. The accents, however, are inexplicably all over the globe. The script seems unsure of its direction. When the story finally becomes a biography of Lorca, it is satisfying. Rob Pattinson does a good job of kissing Javier Beltran and he seems to have fun portraying Dali as flamboyant, egomaniacal, and pathetic. Beltran's portrayal of Lorca is marvelous. I went to preview it for my 13 year old who loves RP. She won't see this movie. The sexual scenes are definitely for adults. Several scenes show full male and female nudity, various sexual acts, and some disturbing violence. See it. It's pretty good. B

One of the most beautifully acted, directed movies I've ever seen. I was so afraid I would only love this movie because of Robert Pattinson, but that is not the case. He is amazing as Salvador Dali. Funny, tortured and madly in love with someone that he can not physically be with. Javier Beltran, wow, I felt his raw emotion, love, pain, fear...with every breath. For those who think Rob Pattinson will never be more than Edward Cullen-shame on you. You must see this movie, as well as How To Be...you will change your minds. In Little Ashes, I cried, laughed, ached with their suffering, along with everyone else watching. What a beautiful movie...I will see it again & again.

The cinematography is amazing. Story is a little hard to follow if you are not aware of the history of the time and place. I felt the awakening, love and fear more intensely in this movie than Brokeback Mtn. More appropriate to be filmed in Spanish with sub-titles than in English. It was distracting with Pattinson's accent that came and went and hard-to-hear poetry (due to the English again). Pattison's forte is awkwardness, he is brillant at it. Javier Beltrán is excellent in his quiet pain. The point to any based-on-truth is to spark interest in the subject; Little Ashes succeeds.
